Check out this article on talking to your child's preschool teacher about adoption----or not? :) What do you think?
Good nutrition for adopted kids is an important and often overlooked topic. There's a website dedicated to supporting parents and adoption professionals. Check it out!
Maybe I'm just being naive, but why does the teacher need to know about the child being adopted? Why give them something to put blame on when there's no reason to?
ReplyDeleteHello! I stumbled across your blog by googling "how to raise children of a different race." :) I'm so gald I found it, your posts have been a breath of fresh air and I have even laughed out loud because what you are saying makes so much sense! My husband and I just got approved to adopt two little AA kiddos, 0-7. We are so excited. We should have them in a matter of weeks. My question is, what can I do to be prepared for the day we get them? What emotions will i feel? Thank you and God bless!!!
ReplyDeleteI do think it's a good idea to talk to them. There are some things that inevitably will come up, and in some ways this can help prepare the teacher and your child.
ReplyDeleteLast year, my daughter had an assignment where we needed to bring baby photos to class. Initially she was a little distraught. We don't have many baby photos, since she came home at 13 months. I was able to talk to her teacher. We sent a photo from when she was an infant, and another of from right after she came home. It made Mea feel better, and because her teachers had already been aware of the fact that she was adopted, when I contacted them about the issue, and her feelings, they weren't surprised.
There are other reasons, but I'm not going to hijack your blog. :)
