I saw this billboard outside a Catholic church near my home and wanted to share it with my readers.
What do you make of it?
How does adoption relate (or does it?) to abortion? For an interesting take on abortion, check out this poem called "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks.
I'm so glad my kids birth mothers chose adoption instead of abortion.
ReplyDeleteI thought about this for a while. I am not sure they have a lot to do with the other. I think that women who choose abortion know about the adoption choice. However, for some reason, they can not handle it and choose to let go of the child before it bonds. I am not saying I agree or disagree. I think that not everyone can carry a child for 9 months and give it away. "Giving it away" before they feel it growing in them is an easier option for some. I also think that some women choose abortion because they don't want anyone to know they were pregnant to begin with. Adoption means having to explain to family and friends that you are carrying a child and then giving to someone else. Maybe for some, abortion means closure.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very powerful poem. When a woman/couple faces a unplanned pregnancy there are basically three options: abortion, adoption and parenting. All three have sacrifices for everyone involved. If someone is going to have an abortion I think it's often for the reasons mentioned in the previous post. Although all three choices stay with you for a lifetime as the poem indicates. Interesting to consider the similarities and differences in those three choices - which all involve loss and grief of some kind. Thanks.
